Most people know me from social media — but that's not really where this started.

It started on building sites, as a tiler. Early mornings, long days, not a lot to look forward to. I built a social media page — Jack the Tiler — mainly to find my own clients, so I could leave that behind and run my own bathroom & tiling company.

Once I did, I wanted to push the standard of my work — learn the mitred corners and resin finishes you see in the best bathrooms. Before trying any of that on a real job, I practiced in my garage. The first thing I made was a small side table.

It wasn't anything special. But standing back and looking at something I'd built entirely myself — no client or brief, just mine — gave me a feeling tiling never had. That's stuck with me ever since.

Jack the Tiler has grown into its own thing since then — But making pieces by hand, exactly the way I want to make them — is where it started, and it's still what I enjoy most.

The Beginning
